I’ve been quiet around here lately. No really deep reason, just that I wanted to live without putting pressure on myself to write about it all the time too. In the past week or so, I’ve spent some good time at home and loved playing water guns with my kids (among other games), refinishing a gorgeous depression era buffet and 2 twin beds, and working on 3 different decorating jobs. I also met with a reproductive endocrinologist to try to figure out why I’ve miscarried so much, and basically now am weighing what it looks like to consider pregnancy again with Lovanox (blood thinner) shots daily to prevent clotting. It’s a lot to think about since I’ve already had 2 c-sections and the thought of too much dangerous bleeding freaks me out, but in the meantime… I’ve been busy in a way of just really living.
Yesterday, I spent time with one of my dearest friends and we crafted! There’s something so therapeutic about crafting for both of us…even when our kids are outside playing “picnic” and we look out to realize that in their raid of the pantry to get applesauce, granola bars, pretzels, and apples….they’ve also apparently gotten a bag of mini chocolate chips. We didn’t know about those til we peeked out to check on them happily playing and noticed they both had brown around their mouths and on their hands. AHHH…..unidentified brown can be dangerous! When we discerned that the brown was from a bag of chocolate chips dumped onto the ground and eaten along with natural earthen grit, we grabbed the remainder in the bag and told them to carry on with the gritty ones. Chocolate and dirt!….to my knowledge, there’s probably more to be concerned about eating what’s in processed chocolate than in the dirt that God made.
Anywhooo….I digress. My friend Em and I made these adorable pennant banners that were inspired by my lovely blogging buddy Myra last week.
I see no reason to reinvent the wheel and give you my own tutorial when you can get the gist from Myra’s tutorial here. I of course made some changes…because that’s what I like to do….put my own twist on things. I found fonts I liked instead of free-handing letters, we didn’t have lace, so we created our own fringe by folding a piece of fabric we liked in half and making small slits to make it look more fringy/lacy-ish. The best part of it all was spending time with my friend, but seriously, look how incredible these turned out!
I posted this picture on facebook and had a request to buy one! So, I got to work and changed it up a bit and came up with this next slightly different one.
If I had a better camera instead of the one on my phone, you might could enjoy these more, but you get the idea. Different font here, different fringy stuff….still super lovely! So….I sold one (she actually wants several), and figured that if anyone else is loving this and isn’t the do-it-yourselfer, I’m delighted to make and sell them to you too! I’ll do any word you want for $5 per letter. I’m thinking Thanksgiving words like “thankful, harvest, autumn.” Christmas could be “Merry Christmas, joyful, noel, Peace, Silent Night”….you get the idea. List is going on and on! So, if you or someone you know might be in the market for a banner, let me know! Just send me an email to Logan at LifeforDessert dot com and we can get rolling!
Here’s one more peek….
Fun huh?! I am loving them!
