Hymnal Table Runner….{Holiday Decorating}

November 26, 2012 by Logan Leave a Comment

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

That includes around my house too!

So far I’ve gotten my living room done today.  Here’s a teaser Instagram pic!  I’ll do a full holiday home tour once I get everything finished.  (By the way, I FINALLY got Instagram, and if you want, you can follow me on it HERE)  I can already tell that I’m going to have way too much fun with this!

Life for Dessert Holiday Living Room

As I was pulling stuff out today to get my Christmas decorating mojo flowing, I decided that I needed to share with you a project that I did last year, that I’m still loving now.

I could give you a full-fledged tutorial for how to make a Hymnal Table Runner (or you could use book pages), but you all are clever people, and I think that instructions with a couple of photos ought to do it.  Also, if you love my living room above, you can check out the actual full-fledged tutorial that I did last year on how to make that beautimous hymnal wreath that’s over my mantel, HERE.

But for now…I still love the hymnal pages that I made into a table runner…

And here it is with a few decorations tossed on it from last year….

And fancied up for this year…

To make this, it’s super easy.  You’ll need:

  • a piece of craft paper cut to the length you want for your table
  • spray glue
  • a hymnal or book that you don’t mind tearing apart.

Start at one end of your paper and make sure the edges of the books are sort of haphazard off the edges of the craft paper.  Spray glue and keep on going.  Overlap and go in different directions so that the pages look scattered.  When you’re done for the season, roll it up carefully with the pages inwards and store for next year!  I had to iron mine and do a little touch up gluing on some edges this year, but I’m pretty excited to use this beauty again!  Did I mention that I got the old hymnal for 25 cents at an estate sale?!  Um yes….cheap, and gorgeous!
